Maisie’s 2nd Birthday

***I wrote this in December on Maisie’s birthday while we were in Holland and I never published it because I didn’t really finish it…now I did.

Maisie is in the other room watching an Elmo video that Amy sent for her birthday and Jen is clipping her nails…I’m sitting here trying to figure out how the first two years of my daughter’s life have already happened!

This past year has been quite a year for this little one. She’s lived in more places and travelled to more countries than most people do before they are 22! We are truly creating a nomad child. She’s flown inter-continentally twice this year. She’s been on 6 separate plane trips, a handful of train rides, and been to 6 countries where we have actually stayed the night. She is an amazing traveler and always us and others at how great she does. She even has great balance on trains! She’s eaten more international food and been exposed to more languages that I was before I was 25!

I hope that this next year of her life won’t be as full of transition and change…hopefully Maisie will only hear one or two other languages! And maybe…just maybe she’ll have her own room! I do understand now that this time in her life is probably harder on us than it is on her. The real bummer is that she most likely won’t remember any of her travels or great experiences! Maybe we can figure out a more balanced nomadic life when she’s a teenager…who knows.

But here’s a Happy Birthday to one of the greatest joys of my life. I’m looking forward to the next year of hearing her little voice call me ‘Dagning’ and traveling the world together!

Yes, Maisie is an incredible little girl. I love playing dolls with her and how she points to me and says, “I want that.” It’s a grandmother’s dream. What a blessing! I’m glad you take lots of pictures. That will help her see all of her adventures even though she may not remember them.
